The reference electrode provides a stable potential by which the working electrode potential can be monitored. The most commonly used reference electrodes are Ag/AgCl (for aqueous electrolytes) and Ag/Ag+ (for organic solvent based electrolytes). However, for some systems, where there are no major fluctuations of ionic activity, a noble metal wire electrode (e.g. platinum or silver) may be substituted for the reference electrode. In this case, the substitute is referred to as a pseudo-reference electrode. Pseudo-reference electrodes are simply metal wires immersed in the sample solution. Although such electrodes do provide a constant potential, the reference potential is unknown, and is dependent on the composition of the sample solution. Consequently, redox potentials measured using a pseudo-reference electrode should be quoted relative to redox potential of the internal reference compound. One advantage of pseudo-reference electrodes is their low impedance. It well fits aqueous (EPDM O-Ring) and organic solvent (FFKM O-Ring) electrolyte requirements.

Application note
Before use rinse it with deionized water. For cleaning, use detergent (dish washing detergent with water), alcohols or acetone and rinse it with deionized water at the end. For storing use, the glass tube included.
