MM PEC 15mm x 15mm - Magnetic Mount Photo-electrochemical Cell
This is a horizontally mounted, single compartment photo-electrochemical cell for measurements of materials based on 15x15 mm2 sample. This cell allows several approaches to perform measurements in 2- or 3-electrode setups. It is designed to investigate performance of 2D materials and thin film photo-anodes such as monolayer graphene. The cathode (counter electrode) and reference electrode are mounted in a top casing. The cell elements are made of PEEK. It well fits aqueous (EPDM O-Rings) and organic solvent (FFKM O-Rings) electrolyte requirements. The construction is gas-tight having gas inlet and outlet, which can be used to bubble the solution and evacuate gases from the chamber.
Another version of this cell equipped with classical screw mount instead of magnets is available here.
The sample is installed in the magnetic mount, facing the cell chamber. In 2-electrode setup, the counter electrode is placed in the socket close to the working electrode while the remaining socket is plugged. When 3-electrode setup is required, the reference electrode is placed close to the measured sample to limit the effect of electrolyte resistance, while the counter electrode occupies the remaining socket. Various auxiliary electrodes are suitable for this cell including metal wire, gauze and foil electrodes as well as non-metal electrodes. Typical applications include: basic photochemistry, photolytic water splitting, photoinduced charge separation and photocorrosion. For troubleshooting instruction see the redox.me blog post.
