Basic Electrochemical Flow Cell - 0.3 mL
The Basic Electrochemical Flow Cell is a compact, ready-to-use electrochemical cell designed for experiments under continuous electrolyte flow. It provides a simple and reliable platform for electrochemical measurements while minimizing electrolyte consumption and simplifying sample exchange.
With an internal volume of approximately 0.3 mL, the cell enables rapid electrolyte replacement and efficient removal of reaction products from the working electrode surface. Rather than relying on laminar flow conditions, the cell is designed to promote effective convective transport, continuously refreshing the electrolyte in the vicinity of the working electrode and minimizing the accumulation of electroactive species generated during the experiment.
The electrolyte flow is directed from the working electrode toward the counter electrode. As a result, reaction products generated at the counter electrode are effectively isolated from the working electrode region despite the single-compartment architecture of the cell.
The cell is supplied as a complete electrochemical system including a platinum counter electrode (ST 0.6/10) and a liquid-junction reference electrode. The electrochemical cell can be equipped with different reference electrodes (REs) depending on the experimental conditions: Ag/AgCl for measurements in acidic electrolytes (default), Hg/HgO (or an alternative alkaline reference electrode) for measurements in alkaline electrolytes, and Ag/Ag⁺ for measurements in organic solvents. The user only needs to install the sample as the working electrode to begin measurements.
The cell is constructed from chemically inert materials, including PEEK and fluorinated plastic, ensuring excellent compatibility with a wide range of electrolytes. FKM O-rings are installed in the variant for aqueous electrolytes, while FFKM O-rings are installed in a cell for use with organic solvents.
Aplication note
The Basic Electrochemical Flow Cell is intended for a broad range of electrochemical experiments requiring controlled electrolyte exchange and efficient removal of reaction products. Typical applications include: a) electrocatalyst characterization, b) corrosion studies, c) electrode material screening, d) battery material research, e) fuel cell catalyst evaluation, f) flow-assisted cyclic voltammetry, g) chronoamperometry under continuous electrolyte renewal, h) electrochemical sensor development, i) studies of unstable reaction intermediates, j) coupling of electrochemical cells with external analytical techniques including ICP-MS, or k) teaching laboratories and electrochemical method development. The compact volume and complete instrumentation make the cell particularly suitable for laboratories seeking a versatile platform for routine electrochemical measurements without the complexity associated with custom-built flow systems.
