Reticulated Glassy (Vitreous) Carbon electrode - 20 mm dia., 25 mm high, Ta wire
Reticulated (Vitreous) Glassy Carbon has a low density, a low thermal expansion, a high corrosion resistance and high thermal and electrical conductivities. It is an open-pore foam material of honeycomb structure composed solely of Vitreous carbon. It has an exceptionally high void volume, high surface area, rigid structure, low resistance to fluid flow, high biocompatibility and very high resistance to temperatures in non-oxidizing environments. Its application in electrochemical processes reduces significantly demand on the electrolyte volume. Other advantages of Reticulated Glassy Carbon related to electrochemical applications include wide potential window, low cost, inert electrochemistry, and electrocatalytic activity for a variety of redox reactions. Other shapes, sizes, porosities and numbers of pores are available on demand. It well fits aqueous (EPDM O-Ring) and organic solvent (FFKM O-Ring) electrolyte requirements.
Application note
Reticulated (Vitreous) Glassy Carbon is a useful electrode material, particularly where high current densities, low electrical/fluid flow resistance, minimal cell volume loss to electrodes and the ability to hold infused materials within controlled pore sizes are required. Examples of applications include: bulk electrolysis, oxidation and reduction of organic and biological molecules in both aqueous and non-aqueous media, batteries, supercapacitors, metals electrowinning, substrates for catalysts, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER).
