Nanoporous PFAS-free PEEK Membrane (pack of 10)
Increasing regulatory scrutiny and restrictions on the use of PFAS compounds in various applications, including membrane manufacturing, make PFAS-free alternatives more attractive from a compliance standpoint. Using PFAS-free PEEK membranes ensures adherence to current and future regulations, avoiding potential legal and reputational risks associated with using PFAS-containing materials.
Nanoporous PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) Membranes are known for their excellent chemical resistance to almost any known organic solvent. These membranes are capable of separation in the nanofiltration range and resistant to nasty solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), tetrahydrofuran (THF), as well as an alkaline and acidic aqueous solution in a whole pH range. Moreover, Nanoporous PEEK Membranes undergo negligible aging, even under elevated temperatures.
Other PFAS-free membranes are available here.
Application note
PFAS-free PEEK membranes are a good alternative to PFAS-containing membranes for selected electrochemical applications mainly due to Environmental and Health Concerns. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have raised significant environmental and health concerns due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and potential toxicity. PFAS-containing membranes can contribute to the release of these harmful substances into the environment during production, use, and disposal. In contrast, PFAS-free PEEK membranes eliminate the risk of exposure to these substances, aligning with sustainability and health-conscious practices. PFAS-free PEEK membranes can exhibit comparable or even superior performance characteristics, such as ion selectivity, permeability, and mechanical strength, compared to PFAS-containing membranes. PFAS-free membranes can offer comparable or superior chemical inertness compared to PFAS-containing membranes. This inertness is crucial in electrochemical applications, where the membrane needs to withstand exposure to corrosive electrolytes and maintain its structural integrity over time. PFAS-free PEEK membranes may offer better long-term stability and reliability, as they do not degrade into potentially harmful byproducts over time. This characteristic is particularly important in electrochemical applications where the membrane's integrity directly impacts the performance and lifespan of the cell.
PEEK Membranes exhibit high resistance under electrochemically harsh conditions. These membranes are typically used to separate compartments in H-Cells filled with aqueous or organic electrolytes and are ideal for organic electrosynthesis, electrolysis, fuel cells, batteries, biomolecule separation, membrane catalysis etc. The membranes are cut to the desired size using a laser. They are also available in sheets.
